The FDE title is being used for different units of work. Four archetypes help leaders describe the dominant pattern without forcing every role into a single template.

Product Extension Builder

This archetype builds customer-facing applications or extensions near the product surface. Strong evidence includes production code, product judgement and examples where custom work became reusable capability.

Enterprise Integrator

This archetype connects the product to complex data, cloud, security, identity and operating environments. Strong evidence includes architecture under real constraints, failure analysis and disciplined scoping across dependencies.

Deployment Operator

This archetype carries deployments through reliability, recovery, adoption and handoff. Strong evidence includes production incidents, operational design and measurable changes in durable use.

Strategic Technical Lead

This archetype shapes ambiguous, multi-team problems with senior stakeholders while retaining hands-on technical authority. Strong evidence includes consequential trade-offs and the artefacts behind executive decisions.

Use a dominant archetype, not a box

Real roles blend patterns. Choose a dominant archetype and one secondary pattern. If all four are equally important, the role is probably carrying unresolved organisational gaps.
